Lydell Self

Degree: Jacksonville State University – 1978
Bachelor of Science in Music Education
Mr. Self is in his 1st year as director of bands at Rome City Schools. Prior to coming to Rome, he served as Director of Bands 6-12 at Gordon Lee Schools for 29 years.
Mr. Self has served as an adjudicator in GA, AL, and TN for marching and concert bands. His bands have performed at the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, and in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
He is an active member of the Georgia Music Educators Association and the Music Educators National Conference. He has served as Chairman of the GMEA District VII in 1992-1994 and 2004-2006. He has also served as Vice Chairman from 1994-2004.
Mr. Self is married to Rebecca Naiser Self. They have three children, Cheryl, Eric, and Brandon. All members of the Self family play brass instruments and have played in their college bands.

Skip Stubblefield

This is Skip Stubblefield’s twentieth year with Rome City Schools. He is a graduate of Jacksonville State University, where he received a B.S. in Music Education with a
Special Honors in Music designation. Afterward, he was a Graduate Assistant in the Band Department of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he received a Master of Music in Education.
Skip is a member of MENC, GMEA, PAS, and Phi Mu Alpha (National Music Fraternity). He is also a member of the Clocktower Jazz Ensemble, the Eighth Regimental Band, and the Roman Festival Brass Band,
of which he is a past-president. Mr. Stubblefield was also chosen the STAR teacher of Rome High School in 1999.
He is married to the former Sinda Booker of Dalton, Georgia. Together, they have five children; Ryan, Coe, Harrison, Kylus and Frankie. |

Wade Williams

Wade Williams is in his 21st year as a band director for Rome City Schools. He previously served as Head Band Director for the Brooks County School
System for two years. He is a Berry College graduate and has a Master of Music Education Degree from West Georgia College. While attending Berry, he served as secretary and president
of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (professional music fraternity for men).
He is a member of National Education Association, Georgia Association of Educators, Music Educators National Conference, Georgia Music Educators Association, and the International Association of
Jazz Educators. He has served as GMEA District 7 past Vice-Chairman. Mr. Williams is also an adjunct professor at Berry College.
He is married to the former Wendy Grace of Jasper, Florida. They have three sons, Micah, age 18, Samuel, age 16, and Jonathan, age 12.

Mark Hester

Mark Hester is in his sixth year as band director for Rome City Schools. He previously served as band director in the Liberty County
School System in Hinesville, Georgia for thirteen years, and prior to that were two years of teaching in Savannah and Moultrie, Georgia.
Mr. Hester received his Undergraduate degree from Jacksonville State University and Master’s degree from Troy State University where he studied under the later Dr. William Revelli.
Mr. Hester was a member of the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps in the years 1978 and 1979. He has served as marching percussion adjudicator for several competitions and has also been
adjudicator for concert festivals here in District 7 and also in District 8. Mark is presently a member of GAE, MENC, and Georgia Music Educators Association.
He is married to former Donna Adcock of Anniston, Alabama. They have two children, Daniel, age 12, and Alan, age 9.
